Oral Pathology. Oral pathology is the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions affecting the tissues of the mouth and jaw. Some of these conditions require surgical treatment, which is a service we provide.

Facial Trauma (Fractures). Trauma to the face often results in injuries including broken bones in the jaw and face. We provide treatment for broken facial bones.

Frenectomies. Some infants are born tongue-tied or lip-tied, where the oral connective tissues are tethered, or too tight for adequate movement. Frenectomy is the procedure used to loosen the connective tissues to improve eating and speech development.

• Lingual Frenectomy. The tissue connecting your tongue to your mouth is the lingual frenum. If you lift the tip of your tongue to touch the roof of your mouth, you can see and feel that lingual frenum. While the length can vary from person to person, some people are born with uncomfortably short lingual frenums (AKA tongue ties) that inhibit their ability to eat, drink, and speak. It  most commonly is diagnosed in infancy by a pediatrician due to problems with breastfeeding. However, the frenum could develop and require intervention during adult years due to the patient's growth.
• Maxillary Frenectomy. If you lift your upper lip, you can see the labial frenum. A maxillary or labial frenectomy addresses problems with the soft tissue connecting your upper lip to your upper gum. People with abnormally short labial frenums may not be able to lift their upper lip (AKA lip tied) and it may create a gap between their upper teeth. Maxillary frenectomies make it easier to clean and care for the front teeth to prevent oral complications, like gum disease. Gaining more movement of the upper lip also helps with speech and facial expressions, especially smiling.
