What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth and root system that can completely replace a missing or extracted tooth. A titanium post is surgically placed in the jaw in the socket where a tooth is missing. It fuses with the bone to form a solid bond that can be as strong as a natural tooth root. From there, an artificial tooth can be attached to provide a full restoration that looks and functions like a natural tooth.

Dental Implant Services

We provide the following dental implant procedures:

Single Tooth Implant Restoration

If you are missing a single tooth, we can restore the aesthetic and function of your smile using a single dental implant as an anchor for a dental crown restoration.  LEARN MORE

Multiple Teeth Implant Restoration

Implant Supported Dentures. Multiple dental implants can be placed throughout the jaw to support partial or full dentures. Offered as either fixed or removable, implant supported dentures are more secure and function more effectively than traditional dentures.  LEARN MORE

All on X Restoration. Using as little as 4 implants for a single arch, you can have a complete set of dentures in a shorter time. This option is often called “Teeth in a Day” because the procedure can be done in a single appointment for eligible patients. LEARN MORE

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are considered to be the highest quality tooth replacement option due to their many benefits:

Natural function. Dental implants bond securely with your jaw, allowing your dental prosthetics to function as closely as possible to your natural teeth. You can eat the foods you enjoy without the limitations of your dental health.

Natural appearance. Dental implants look natural because they are anchored in the jaw in the same way your natural teeth are. You can smile with confidence, knowing your teeth look great.

Prevents bone loss. One of the biggest benefits of dental implants is the fact that they preserve the bone structure of your jaw. Without teeth, the support structures, including the jaw bone, will weaken and resorb (dissolve). This can change the shape of your face and leave your remaining teeth with less support. But dental implants replace the missing tooth roots, keeping your jaw strong and healthy and your face looking younger.

Prevents damage to your healthy teeth. Dental implants can exist independently of your remaining healthy teeth. Unlike a bridge that requires healthy teeth to be permanently altered when fitted with crowns and susceptible to damage over time, a dental implant won’t have any negative impact on your existing teeth.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

The key factor in eligibility for dental implants is the condition of your jaw. There must be sufficient bone structure to support an implant. The bone in the location where the implant will be placed needs to be wide enough, deep enough, and strong enough to support an implant. If your tooth or teeth have been missing for a while, there is a greater chance that the bone will have deteriorated too much to be ready for a dental implant.

This does not mean that you can never get dental implants; it simply means that you may need some preparation first. Bone grafting can add bone structure to your jaw and encourage the natural bone tissue to regenerate. If it is successful, you may be a candidate for dental implants afterward.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

How long does it take to get dental implants?
An implant may consist of one or a combination of dental procedures. In certain cases an implant may be completed in as little as one surgical appointment. In other cases a series of procedures may be provided over the course of a few months or years.
Are dental implants covered by insurance?
Some of the procedures that could be included in your dental implant process may be covered by insurance and others may not. Coverage will depend on your provider and plan. We are happy to build you a personalized treatment plan at your consultation.
Will the results look natural?
Advancements in technology allow for the creation of dental prosthetics that look very natural. Biocompatible materials such as porcelain, zirconia, and PEEK resemble natural tooth enamel in texture and finish and can be made to match your existing teeth. Custom made crowns, bridges, and dentures are designed to the exact specifications of the digital impressions made of your own teeth.
How do I care for my teeth after dental implant restoration?
Your dentist will provide you with instructions on how to care for your teeth and your dental prosthetics after full mouth rehabilitation. Depending on the type of replacement teeth you receive, you may need special tools and equipment to keep your mouth healthy. Consider your replacement teeth to be the same as natural teeth. They require the same daily brushing and flossing, and the same amount of regular checkups. Just like your natural teeth, the better you take care of your replacements, the longer they will last. With regular check ups, any issues with the implants can be caught and remedied.
How long will my results last?
The results of your implant restoration could last for the rest of your life. Dental implants are known to last for 30 years or more, and other prosthetics may last that long with excellent care. Following your dentist’s instructions for care and keeping up with regularly scheduled dental appointments are the biggest factors in the success of your restoration.
What are the advantages of implants over dentures or bridges?
Conventional bridges and dentures are not fixed to the bone, and can therefore be unstable. This can make it difficult to eat or smile with confidence. Implants not only look more natural, but feel and act more like normal teeth, with a stronger biting force. And because they don't directly rely on neighboring teeth for support, implants don't compromise the health of your natural teeth. In fact, bridges are only expected to last seven to ten years, even less with root canals, whereas implants will typically last a lifetime.
